How do I book?
Once you have telephoned and accepted the quotation we will send you a contract which includes the name of the band, and caller, and your contact on the night. On receipt of your small deposit we notify the artistes of all information and you can relax in the knowledge that your event is in safe hands. We will then contact you a week before your event to discuss the final details. The band and caller will arrive in good time to set up the stage so that they can start at the agreed time. The outstanding fee should be paid to the artistes at the event.

When do I need to book?
As early as possible! - Bands and 'Callers'often get booked a year or more in advance so if you need artistes for a particular date, you can't book too early. However, if you cannot commit yourself too far ahead, still contact us, we can often find someone to help. We have been known to find a band with only 24 hours notice.

What is a Line Dance?
Line Dances differ from Barn Dances in that you do not need a. partner, and the dancers stand in lines, dancing a series of steps before turning to face another direction to repeat the same step pattern. A variety of tempos are used including waltz, quickstep, cha-cha, all having separate step patterns to remember. The music, however, is mainly Country and Western. As with the barn dance a leader or'caller'will teach you the steps and usually dances them in front of you giving you a pattern to follow. No special clothing is needed although most folk, once hooked on it, choose to wear American Country and Western style clothes.

What is a Barn Dance?

A Barn Dance, sometimes known as a Ceilidh (Kaylee) or Hoedown , is a mix of dances done in differing formations - lines, circles, squares, partner dances etc. The nature of most dances is that you dance with your own partner but progress to meet other couples with whom you repeat the dance or do a particular movement. It is all very easy and does not rely on your ability to dance intricate steps but rather to know basic movements like do-si-do, circle left and right, and right and left hand stars. The main requirement is to listen to the'caller', who tells you what to do and when to do it, and to remember the basic pattern of the dance. It is adviseable to try the earlier dances in the evening as it is then that the 'caller' runs through the basic movements before moving on to more interesting ones later. Whatever you do - get up and have a go, it really is good fun. You don't need special clothes or shoes - just something comfortable and casual. We can supply a Scottish flavour evening including dances such as Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sargeant, Strip the Willow, and Eightsome reel, or an Irish flavour including Bridge of Athlone, Waves of Tory, etc.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN LINEDANCING & BARNDANCING?
As this agency handles both forms of entertainment we feel we are able to give an unbiased opinion.

Q 1. What is Line Dancing?
Line Dancing is movement mainly by the legs and torso to Country and Western (Country) Music, usually as a Solo but occasionally with a partner.

Q 2. How does it differ from Barn Dancing?
In almost every respect. Barn Dancing is mainly movements of the arms and body to English, Irish, Scottish or American Jigs, Reels Hornpipes and Polkas.

Q 3. What does the caller do?
In Line Dancing the caller joins the dancers on the floor and will call, usually with a head set radio mic. and demonstrate at the same time. He/she will usually have an assistant as Line Dancing is usually done facing different directions. Barn Dance callers usually call from the stage.

Q 4. How many dances can be done in an evening?
This obviously depends on the amount of time available, but six is a rule of thumb. At a Barn Dance it is usually about 14+ dances.

Q 5. Can we have live music?
A Line Dance is usually taught to recorded music, if a Band is available then the dancers can put their newly acquired knowledge to good use when the Band starts up. In Barn Dancing the caller can work with either recorded music or can call over the top of the Band while they are playing.

Q 6. Are there any change partner dances?
Not in Line Dancing as it is mostly done as a Solo, but one or two Barn Dances such as the Virginia Reel are included by some Line Dance callers.

Q7. How did Line Dancing become popular?
The first record to break in this country was Achy Breaky Heart in about 1992 this was followed up by Cotton Eyed Joe in 1995. These tunes had dances specially written for them and their TY. exposure gained them a wide audience who wanted to try for themselves. The Country and Western Clubs in the U-K. have been doing Western line Dancing for 20 years or more. The originals go back to Texas in the U.S.A. where enormous Dance Halls are situated. The men wanted to drink beer and listen to the Country Music whilst the girls had nothing to do except the occasional two-step with their partner when they could drag him onto the floor. In desperation the girls started to dance around on their own and they made up step patterns developing the dances that we know today.
